The Privilege Job Longed For

During a recent Bible study, something struck me deeply while reading the book of Job.
In the midst of his suffering, confusion, and unanswered questions, Job cried out for something profound. In Job 9:33, he says:
“If only there were someone to mediate between us, someone to bring us together.”
Job longed for an intercessor.
Someone who could stand between him and God.
Someone who could understand both divine justice and human pain.
Someone who could plead his case.
But Job lived before the cross.
He endured unimaginable suffering without the revelation we now carry.
How fortunate we are.
We live in the generation that has King Jesus.
What Job desired, we possess.
What Job longed for, we have been given freely.
We have a Mediator.
1 Timothy 2:5 declares:
“For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus.”
When we fall short, the blood speaks.
When we are misunderstood, the blood speaks.
When shame tries to silence us, the blood speaks.
Job wished for someone to bridge the gap.
We stand in a covenant where the gap has already been closed.
Hebrews 12:24 tells us that the blood of Jesus “speaks a better word.”
A better word than guilt.
A better word than accusation.
A better word than condemnation.
Job wrestled in pain without the clarity of Calvary.
We wrestle with the assurance of redemption.
What a privilege.
What a gift.
What a King.
May we never take lightly what generations before us only hoped for — access, advocacy, and intimacy with God through King Jesus.
